Bandipora, September 5: Tawheed Parvaiz Bhat, teacher at Government N.M. Boys Higher Secondary School, Bandipora, was among 20 teachers felicitated with the UT-Level Best Teacher Award at a Teachers’ Day ceremony held at SKICC, Srinagar.
Minister for School Education, Health and Medical Education and Social Welfare Sakina Masood Itoo presented the awards to the selected teachers in the presence of senior officials of the School Education Department.
Bhat was recognised for his innovative teaching practices, use of technology and efforts to promote experiential and inclusive learning. He has worked to introduce activity-based and practical methods in the classroom, with emphasis on connecting classroom learning with real-life experiences.
His work extends beyond his school. He has been associated with initiatives related to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at district and Union Territory levels and has contributed to content development related to the Holistic Progress Card (HPC) through SCERT. He also serves as a District-Level Resource Person for NEP 2020 at DIET Bandipora.
Bhat has also been involved in environmental awareness and community initiatives. He serves as a District-Level Resource Person for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and District Nodal Officer for Swachhata 50:50. His work includes awareness activities related to waste segregation, waste management and environmental conservation.
In June 2026, he received the Green Teacher Award from Climate Reality Project India and South Asia for his contribution to environmental education and student participation in environmental initiatives. He is also associated with Eco Clubs in schools.
He is currently involved in initiatives aimed at strengthening the use of Atal Tinkering Labs and STEM Labs to provide students with opportunities for experimentation, innovation and hands-on learning.
Bhat has authored two books, Exploring Biotechnology – A Comprehensive Textbook for Class XII and Ethnobotanical Flora of Gurez, Bandipora. He also writes on education, environment, social issues, digital ethics, science and technology.
Speaking after receiving the award, Bhat thanked the Chief Education Officer, Bandipora, heads of institutions, colleagues, students, friends and well-wishers for their support. He said the recognition represented the collective efforts of teachers and students and dedicated the award to his parents, the teaching fraternity and his students.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by senior education officials, including Director School Education Kashmir Naseer Ahmad Wani, Director School Education Jammu Dr Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, Joint Directors of School Education Kashmir and Project Director Samagra Shiksha J&K Bhawani Rakwal.
