Kulgam, Aug 31: The Laroo–Labripora bypass road project in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has remained incomplete for nearly a decade, with around half of the work still pending, leaving commuters and residents to contend with persistent traffic congestion.
The delay in completing the bypass has added to pressure on the existing road network in Kulgam, where traffic jams have become a frequent occurrence, affecting daily commuters, traders and residents.
Residents said the incomplete project has failed to provide the intended relief to traffic movement in and around Kulgam, despite the road being planned as an alternative route to ease congestion.
They urged the concerned authorities to expedite the remaining construction work and set a clear timeline for completion of the project.
The prolonged delay has also raised concerns over the utilization of public funds and the lack of timely completion of an infrastructure project that was expected to improve connectivity and reduce traffic pressure in the district.
The Laroo–Labripora bypass road continues to figure among the ongoing development works listed in official district records.
Locals have sought intervention from the concerned authorities, saying completion of the bypass could significantly improve traffic movement and provide relief to people who face congestion on a regular basis. [KNT]
