Baramulla, Aug 20: Lauding the army’s initiative to channelise the energy of the valley’s youth through sports, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Thursday termed the Chinar Premier League (CPL) a “positive, healthy, and creative stage” for young cricketers, asserting that Jammu and Kashmir is “sitting on a gold mine of talent.”
Addressing the gathering at the Bipin Rawat Sports Stadium here in cricket tournament organised by the Dagger Division, CS Atal Dulloo as per Kashmir Convener emphasised that cricket is not merely a game but a vehicle for discipline, team spirit, and mutual respect.
“The field teaches us how to be patient in victory and graceful in defeat. These are the principles that show the way to success in life,” Dulloo said, urging the youth to dream big. Quoting former President late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, he remarked, “Dream is not that which you see when you are sleeping dream is that which does not allow you to sleep.”
The Chief Secretary said, “There is no shortage of talent in our youth. We only need the right opportunity and guidance. I am sure this tournament will give many young players a golden opportunity to showcase their abilities.”
CS Atal Dulloo appreciated the Dagger Division’s efforts from the “bottom of his heart,” stating that such programmes strengthen peace, brotherhood, and mutual trust in society. He advised the players to adhere to three key principles discipline, passion and hard work, and respect for competitors, umpires, and spectators.
“The real champion is the one who wins people’s hearts with his good character and behavior,” he added, asserting that the bright future of Jammu and Kashmir lies in the hands of its youth.
Drawing parallels to the perseverance of inventor Thomas Alva Edison, Atal Dulloo encouraged the players not to fear failure. “Defeat is a big part of our learning. When there is victory, there is also defeat,” he said, citing Edison’s example of discovering 10,000 ways that do not work before achieving success.
The Chief Secretary expressed confidence that the tournament would foster friendship, unity, and healthy competition, enabling players from different regions to understand each other and forge new bonds. “This is the real strength of national unity,” he maintained.
CS Dulloo officially announced the inauguration of the cricket tournament and extended his best wishes to all participating teams, coaches, and sportspersons, praying that the event “sets a new record of success.”
