Bandipora, August 15: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at Kishanganga Power Station with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm, with General Manager In-Charge and Head of Power Station, Rajesh Ranjan, unfurling the National Flag and taking the salute of the parade presented by the CISF contingent.
The ceremony was attended by General Manager (Civil) Arun Kumar Soni, NHPC officers and employees, CISF personnel, contract workers and a large number of local villagers, including women and children.
Addressing the gathering, Ranjan extended Independence Day greetings and paid tribute to the freedom fighters who made the supreme sacrifice for the country’s independence. He said the occasion was an opportunity for every citizen to take pride in India’s achievements while reaffirming their responsibilities towards the nation.
Highlighting India’s progress since independence, he said the country had made significant strides in science and technology, education, agriculture, healthcare, sports and energy and was moving steadily towards becoming a self-reliant and developed nation.
Ranjan highlighted NHPC Limited’s contribution to India’s energy sector, saying the corporation was playing a leading role in hydropower development while also expanding into solar, wind and pumped-storage projects. During 2025-26, NHPC power stations generated 23,306 million units of electricity, while Kishanganga Power Station recorded 1,550 million units, its highest annual generation since commissioning.
He further said the power station achieved its highest-ever daily energy generation of 8.172 million units on July 13, 2026. He appreciated the dedication of NHPC employees, CISF personnel and other associates for achieving the milestones.
Highlighting NHPC’s role in Jammu and Kashmir, Ranjan said six of the corporation’s 31 power stations are located in the Union Territory, making NHPC an important contributor to the region’s energy requirements and development.
He also highlighted the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives undertaken by Kishanganga Power Station for the benefit of local communities. He said the new building of Army Goodwill School at Gurez, constructed through NHPC’s CSR funding, was recently inaugurated, while several other development projects are underway in the region.
Concluding the programme, Ranjan urged all stakeholders to continue contributing towards the nation’s progress and maintain the same spirit of dedication and excellence in the operation of Kishanganga Power Station.
