Kupwara, Aug 12: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting sportsmanship, youth empowerment and social awareness, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the District Administration, Kupwara successfully conducted the Chinar Volleyball Tournament 2026 in Kupwara District from 03 to 11 Aug 2026. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from 29 teams representing various areas of the district, reflecting the growing interest of local youth in sports and constructive community engagement.
The tournament commenced with an impressive Opening Ceremony on 03 Aug 2026, graced by the ASP Kupwara as the Chief Guest. Conducted on a knockout basis, the matches showcased exceptional talent, teamwork, discipline and competitive spirit, with players displaying remarkable determination and sportsmanship throughout the event.
The initiative provided a vibrant platform for local youth to channelise their energy towards positive pursuits, develop leadership qualities and strengthen the spirit of healthy competition. Simultaneously, the tournament served as an effective medium to spread awareness against drug abuse and other social evils, encouraging young individuals to adopt a healthy, disciplined and purposeful lifestyle.
The tournament culminated in a Grand Finale on 11 Aug 2026, attended by the DC, Kupwara. A special girls volleyball match was conducted and honoured during the closing ceremony, recognising the importance of women empowerment, gender inclusivity and the growing participation of young women in sports. The initiative highlighted the role of sports in building confidence, leadership and teamwork among girls while encouraging greater involvement of women in community and sporting activities. The teams were awarded with cash incentives along with trophies and medals in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Reflecting the Indian Army’s ethos of “We Care”, the successful conduct of the tournament further strengthened Civil-Military bonding and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment towards youth engagement, sports promotion and drug-abuse prevention. The event also reinforced the values of Kashmiriyat, Jamhooriyat and Insaniyat, while fostering unity, mutual trust and harmony across the region.
