Jammu, Aug 1: The Cooperatives Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh, in coordination with the All Changthang Pashmina Growers Cooperative Society Ltd., on Saturday organised a one-day interaction-cum-seminar with members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), textile entrepreneurs, traders and buyers in Jammu to strengthen market linkages for authentic Ladakh Pashmina.
The programme aimed to facilitate direct procurement of GI-tagged Ladakh Pashmina and ensure better returns for Changpa pastoralists by connecting producers with industry stakeholders.
Deputy Commissioner, Changthang, Nitish Rajora said the Pashmina sector is the economic backbone of the Changthang region and stressed that direct engagement with industry would ensure transparent procurement, fair pricing and sustainable livelihoods for Changpa herders. He urged industrial stakeholders to build long-term partnerships with the Cooperative Society and promote authentic Ladakh Pashmina in domestic and international markets.
Representatives of the All Changthang Pashmina Growers Cooperative Society highlighted the Society’s efforts to strengthen procurement systems, improve quality standards and enhance the income of Pashmina-producing families across Changthang.
Members of the CII and representatives from the textile industry appreciated the quality of Ladakh Pashmina and expressed interest in establishing direct sourcing arrangements and long-term business collaborations.
The seminar concluded with an interactive session between buyers and producers, focusing on market expectations, quality standards and future cooperation.
Deputy Registrar, Cooperatives, Ladakh, in his vote of thanks, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to expanding market access for Ladakh Pashmina and ensuring that the benefits of value addition reach the Changpa herding community.
