Srinagar, July 29: A delegation of members of the Youth Welfare Committee, KP Bagh Srinagar called on the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg and projected a number of pressing issues concerning the Padshahi Bagh area, particularly the poor condition of the main road and the vulnerable bunds of Padshahi Bagh Nallah.
During the meeting, the delegation urged the Divisional Commissioner to issue necessary directions to the concerned officers of various departments for immediate repair, renovation and blacktopping of the main Padshahi Bagh road.
The members said that the deteriorated condition of the road is causing considerable inconvenience to both vehicular traffic and pedestrians. They stressed that urgent restoration and blacktopping of the road is necessary to ensure smooth and safe movement, particularly for local residents, commuters and other road users.
The delegation also raised concerns regarding the condition of the Padshahi Bagh Nallah bunds, especially in view of the ongoing rainy season and the possibility of heavy rainfall and flooding.
The Divisional Commissioner was requested to direct the Chief Engineer, PHE & Flood Control, to take immediate measures for raising and strengthening the bund levels of Padshahi Bagh Nallah to safeguard nearby residential areas and properties.
Another major concern highlighted by the delegation was the movement of heavy water tankers over the bunds. The members requested that the movement of water tankers on the bunds be stopped, stating that the heavy vehicles are causing damage to the fragile structures of the nallah.
The delegation expressed apprehension that continued movement of heavy water tankers could further weaken the bunds and potentially pose a serious threat to the lives and properties of local residents, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding.
The members emphasized that preventive measures should be taken well in advance to avoid any untoward incident and ensure the safety of the people living in and around the area.
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured the members that the issues raised by them would be taken up with the concerned departments and that all necessary steps would be taken to redress their grievances at the earliest.
