Bandipora, July 17: Aiman Showkat, a 19-year-old student from Kharpora village in Bandipora district, has secured fifth rank in Jammu and Kashmir in the NEET-UG 2026 examination, achieving the feat through self-study without enrolling in any formal coaching institute.

The results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) were declared on Friday.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, Aiman said she relied primarily on online educational resources during her preparation.

“I did not take any coaching. I studied from YouTube, learning different subjects from different teachers,” she said.

Aiman completed her Class 10 education at Army Goodwill School, Bandipora, before moving to Hyderabad for Classes 11 and 12. Instead of joining a coaching institute, she followed a self-directed study plan supported by digital learning platforms.

She said consistency was more important than long study hours. “I never studied for 16 to 18 hours. Seven to eight hours of efficient study worked best for me. There was no fixed timetable—we would wake up for prayers, have lunch and then sit for studies,” she said.

Sharing her preparation strategy, Aiman said the examination pattern has become increasingly concept-oriented. “Earlier, Physics and Chemistry were more formula-based. Now conceptual questions are being asked. Students should build strong concepts and focus on solving more questions,” she said.

Recalling the announcement of the results, she said family members had gathered at her home in Kharpora and anxiously awaited the outcome. “I was praying for a rank under five, and Alhamdulillah, I got it. Everyone was very happy,” she said.

Offering advice to aspirants, Aiman urged students to believe in themselves and remain focused on their goals. “First, you have to trust yourself. Don’t pay too much attention to what people say. Work hard with passion, dedication and consistency, and the results will follow,” she said.

Her achievement comes amid continuing discussions on the growing dependence on private coaching for competitive examinations. By securing a top national rank through self-study and online resources, Aiman’s success highlights the role of digital learning platforms as an alternative mode of preparation for aspirants.
