Two Die as Car Falls into Lidder Nallah Near Pahalgam; CM Mourns Loss

Anantnag, June 18: Two persons, including a woman, were killed after a car they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into the Lidder Nallah near the Gudkhoom area on the Pahalgam-Aru route in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Officials said the vehicle, bearing registration number JK03C-6737, fell into the water body from a considerable height, resulting in extensive damage to the car.

The deceased have been identified as Imran Hussain Ganaie, a resident of Pethbugh Dialgam, and Yasmeena Yousuf of Mattan, Anantnag.

Soon after the accident, rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched an operation. The bodies of the two occupants were retrieved from the Lidder Nallah and shifted to Government Civil Hospital Pahalgam.

Hospital sources said both victims succumbed to severe head injuries sustained in the accident.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the accident. [KNT]
