Authorities Destroy Illegal Poppy Cultivation in Joint Anti-Drug Operation at Sumbal

Sumbal, May 11: As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, a joint enforcement operation was carried out in the Sarie Dangerpora area of Sumbal by the Police Department in coordination with the Revenue, Agriculture, and Excise Departments. During the operation, officials detected illegally cultivated poppy crops spread across agricultural land and destroyed them on the spot in accordance with legal procedures.
Authorities said the action was undertaken as part of sustained efforts to curb the cultivation and trafficking of narcotic substances in the region. The joint team also conducted inspections in nearby areas to identify any further illegal cultivation activities.
In connection with the case, Police have registered an FIR vide No. 103/2026 under Sections 8 and 18 of the NDPS Act. Officials confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to identify the individuals involved and determine the overall extent of the unlawful cultivation network.
The administration reiterated its commitment to continue strict action against drug-related activities across the district.
