SHOPIAN, May 06: Continuing its sustained crackdown against illegal mining, Shopian Police seized Three tippers and four tractors, one fitted with a jali involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from different areas of the district.
During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Post Turkwangam intercepted and seized two tippers and one tractor fitted with a jali engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In this connection FIR No. 68/ 2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been initiated.
In another action, a police party from Police Post Berthipora intercepted and seized one tractor involved in illegal mining activities. Accordingly, FIR No. 45/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and further investigation has been taken up.
Similarly, a police party from Police Post Saidpora seized one tipper found indulging in illegal mining activities. In this regard, FIR No. 33/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Heerpora and investigation has been initiated.
In a separate action, a police team from Police Station Heerpora intercepted and seized two tractors involved in illegal transportation of minerals without mandatory permission. Accordingly, FIR No. 34/2026 under relevant provisions of law have been registered at Police Station Heerpora and further investigation is underway.
Shopian Police reiterated its firm commitment towards protecting the district’s natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining activities. The general public has been urged to cooperate with the police by reporting such unlawful activities, with assurance that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
