Bandipora, April 22: In a continued effort to curb substance abuse, Sumbal Police, in collaboration with the ARTO Office Bandipora and the Health Department, carried out a comprehensive awareness-cum-enforcement drive across Sonawari, including Sumbal town and adjoining areas under the Nasha Mukti Bharat Abhiyan.

The campaign focused on sensitising the transport fraternity about the harmful effects of drug abuse while ensuring strict ground-level enforcement. As part of the drive, officials conducted on-the-spot Urine Drug Screening (UDS) tests on dozens of transporters to detect substance use.

Police and health officials highlighted the serious social and health consequences of addiction and stressed the need for collective responsibility in addressing the growing menace.

SHO Sumbal Sarjan Ahmad, along with Sub-Inspector Danish Mastana, interacted with participants and urged members of the transport sector to play an active role in building a drug-free society. They warned that drug abuse is eroding the social fabric and called for united efforts, particularly in Bandipora district, to protect the youth.

Officials reiterated that such joint drives combining awareness with enforcement will continue in the coming days to strengthen the fight against drug abuse in the region.
