Govt Hr Sec Sumlar Bids Farewell to Two Veteran Teacher

Bandipora, April 03: A dignified superannuation ceremony was held at Higher Secondary School (H.S.) Sumlar to honour the retirement of Headmaster Farooq Ahmad Wani and Master Khursheed Ahmad Wani, marking the culmination of their decades-long service in the field of education.

An official spokesperson said the ceremony unfolded as a reflective and heartfelt occasion, celebrating the invaluable contributions of the two educators toward academic excellence, character building and community upliftment.

The event was graced by the Principal and Cluster Head of H.S.S. Arin, Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Heads of Institutions from affiliated schools under Complex Head Sumlar, Imam and Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Sumlar Janab Gh. Nabi Lone Sahib, members of the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC), Numberdar Janab Gh. Muhammad Wani Sahib, and other dignitaries.

In his keynote address, the Principal of H.S.S. Arin reflected on his professional journey and highlighted the transformative power of education in shaping an enlightened and just society. Drawing inspiration from the spiritual and intellectual teachings of Shaikh-ul-Alam, he emphasized the sacred responsibility of educators and the need to balance institutional duties with societal expectations.

The Imam and Khateeb, in his remarks, underscored the importance of moral and value-based education, stating that true learning extends beyond textbooks and requires joint efforts of teachers and parents in nurturing ethically grounded individuals. He concluded with prayers for the well-being and continued success of the retiring teachers.

Gh. Muhammad Wani appreciated the recent academic performance of students in JKBOSE examinations and stressed the need for infrastructural development and addressing staff shortages to sustain educational progress.

Several speakers, including Master B.A. Shah Sahib and Master Muhammad Yousuf Shah Sahib, paid glowing tributes to the retirees, acknowledging their roles not only as dedicated teachers but also as administrators and institution-builders whose impact extended beyond the classroom.

A special segment of the programme featured the reading of commemorative citations highlighting the professional journeys and contributions of the honourees. The citations were presented by Vocational Teachers Mr. Qazi Irshad and Mr. Nasir Syed.

In his farewell address, Headmaster Farooq Ahmad Wani reflected on his journey from a student to an educational leader. He recalled the influence of his teachers and parents and urged students to pursue diligence and perseverance. He also highlighted achievements of students in board examinations, academics and sports, while drawing attention to challenges such as the shortage of non-teaching staff, including MTS and accounts assistants, which has placed additional responsibilities on teaching staff since the school’s upgradation.

Master Khursheed Ahmad Wani, recounting his professional path, spoke about his early leadership roles in the private sector as a principal, his tenure as ZRC, and his long teaching career. He shared experiences of struggle and perseverance, inspiring students to remain committed to their goals.

Student speakers expressed gratitude for the mentorship and guidance of both teachers, acknowledging their lasting impact on their academic, moral and personal development.

The programme was coordinated by staff members including Mr. Sheikh Javid, Mr. Reyaz Ahmad, Mr. M. Mustafa Khalil, Mr. Sheikh Musavir and S.A. Lone, along with students. The proceedings were conducted by students Furqanah and Saliha of Class 9, alongside S.A. Lone.

The ceremony concluded on an emotional note, serving as a tribute to the enduring legacy of the two educators and reaffirming the timeless value of dedicated service in the teaching profession.
