No one-time power amnesty in J&K: Govt

Jammu, Apr 01: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday ruled out any one-time amnesty on power bills, stating that the financial health of power distribution companies (DISCOMs) does not permit such a move.

In a written reply to the Legislative Assembly, the Power Development Department (PDD) informed that no proposal for waiving electricity dues of small-scale industrial unit holders, rice husking mills, and bandsaw mill owners was under consideration.

The response was submitted to a query by National Conference leader and MLA from Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone.

“The financial position of the DISCOMs does not warrant so,” the government said in its reply, which was signed by the Under Secretary to the Government, Power Development Department.

On a separate query regarding waiver of electricity tariff for patients suffering from cancer and other life-consuming diseases, the government stated that no such proposal was currently under consideration.
