Jammu, Feb 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Department of Floriculture, Gardens and Parks on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that no major augmentation or expansion projects are currently underway in the two public parks under its management in Bandipora constituency.

The information was provided in a written reply to a question raised by MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat during the ongoing Budget session.

According to the reply, the department manages Nishat Park, spread over nearly 50 kanals, and Wular Vantage Park, covering about 65 kanals. “Currently, no major augmentation or expansion projects are underway at Nishat Park Bandipora. The Department handles minor upgrades and repairs as needed, using its own resources,” the reply stated.

In the case of Wular Vantage Park, the department clarified that responsibilities are shared. While the Floriculture Department oversees gardening and floral maintenance, civil works, electrical systems and ticketing operations are managed by the Wular and Manasbal Development Authority (WMDA).

The Tourism Department has proposed augmentation and upgradation of four bird-watcher huts and gazebos at an estimated cost of ₹5 lakh. However, no timeline for the proposal was specified.

The WMDA is also maintaining Authwatoo Park, where works undertaken during the current financial year include upgradation of a tile pathway, raising of grill fencing, paneling of budgeted accommodation and tile flooring in ten washrooms.

The reply, signed by the Minister Incharge, indicates that development activities in Bandipora’s parks are presently limited to routine maintenance and minor works rather than large-scale redevelopment.
