26 Villages in Bandipora Yet to Get Tap Water Under JJM: Govt

Jammu, Feb 12: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that 26 out of 180 habitations in the Bandipora Assembly Constituency remain uncovered or partially covered under the Centre’s flagship Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), which aims to provide functional tap water connections to every rural household.
The disclosure came in a written reply to a question raised by MLA Nizam-Ud-Din Bhat during the ongoing Budget Session.
As per official data tabled in the House, 55 water supply schemes under JJM and NABARD have been taken up in the constituency to achieve universal coverage. Of these, 22 schemes have been substantially completed and made operational.
However, 26 habitations — including Nowgam, Pethkoot, Golpathri, Lawyalpati, Yali, Kehnoosa, Kawpora and several mohallas — are yet to be fully covered.
The government stated that these uncovered areas have been tagged to specific ongoing schemes and will receive potable water supply once the works are completed. The projects are currently at various stages of execution.
The reply stated that all remaining uncovered habitations are set to be provided with potable water once the ongoing JJM schemes are fully completed. The listed habitations are currently linked to specific water supply schemes under the mission, which are at various stages of execution.
Notably, The disclosure highlights the gaps in saturation of the centrally-sponsored mission in the region, even as the administration assured the House that works are underway to bridge the coverage deficit at the earliest.
