Sumbal police arrest alleged drug peddler, seize 11.5 kg charas

Bandipora, Feb 10: Sumbal Police on Monday arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered a huge quantity of contraband from his possession.
Official sources told Kashmir Convener that the accused has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Dar alias Shatru, son of Abdul Hamid Dar, a resident of Wangipora Bala, Sumbal terming it a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking,
According to police, a naka checking was laid near the CRPF Tarring Ground, Sumbal. During routine checking, the suspect was intercepted and subjected to a thorough search, which resulted in the recovery of 11.50 kilograms of Charas Chura. He was immediately taken into custody.
Police officials said the arrested individual is a known drug peddler and has been previously involved in multiple criminal cases. His arrest is being termed as a major success in efforts to curb the drug menace in the area.
In this connection, an FIR has been registered at Police Station Sumbal under relevant sections of law. Further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the drug network.
Police reiterated their commitment to continuing stringent action against drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free society.
