CID arrests absconder in decade-old FICN case

Jammu, Feb 9: The Counter-Intelligence wing of the Crime Investigation Department has arrested an absconder wanted in a fake currency case dating back nearly two decades, officials said on Monday.

According to officials, the accused, Hilal Ahmed Bhat of Poshpora Kupwara, was apprehended from the Bhagani Talab Mohalla area of Raipur Domana in Jammu. The arrest followed execution of an absconder warrant issued by the Principal Sessions Court Jammu under Section 512 of the Code of Criminal Procedure against him and his father, Mohammad Assad Ullah Bhat.

Officials said both individuals were wanted in connection with a Fake Indian Currency Notes case registered in 2007 at Police Station CID Counter-Intelligence Jammu under Sections 489A, 489B and 489C of the erstwhile Ranbir Penal Code. The accused had remained untraceable for nearly ten years and were accused of deliberately evading the judicial process during trial proceedings.

Based on specific intelligence inputs, a fugitive tracking team of the CID Counter-Intelligence Jammu carried out a coordinated operation, leading to the arrest of Hilal Ahmed Bhat. After his arrest, the accused was produced before the competent court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

Officials said the operation reflects the agency’s continued efforts to pursue long-pending cases linked to fake currency and associated networks. They said further action will follow in accordance with law as the investigation progresses. [KNT]
