Bandipora Indoor Stadium Ready, Central Pavilion Stuck Over Technical Sanction: JK Govt
Convener News Desk
Jammu, Feb 7: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday stated that the newly constructed indoor stadium at Sher-e-Kashmir (S.K.) Stadium Bandipora is complete and ready for use while the nearly finished Central Pavilion Block has been delayed due to a pending procedural approval within the department.
In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Bandipora, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, during the ongoing Budget Session, the government stated that the indoor stadium has been completed as per the sanctioned allotment and is available for use by the youth.
However, the department admitted that the Central Pavilion Block at the same stadium, which is around 95 per cent complete, could not be finished due to the pending revised technical sanction from the Chief Engineer, North Kashmir. The reply stated that the delay is primarily on account of this approval.
The department further informed the House that the proposal for dismantling the dilapidated old pavilion at the S.K. Stadium has been formally taken up with the District Administration, Bandipora.
Listing other completed sports infrastructure works in the constituency, the department said playfields at Lankergund Gundpora, HS Qazipora and GHS Kaloosa have been completed.
According to the government, Badminton courts at two locations, a Zonal Physical Education Office, and an open-air gym along with a pre-fabricated hall at the S.K. Stadium have also been completed.
The government added that comprehensive upgradation of the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Bandipora and the Sports Stadium at Naidkhai is currently underway under the Capex Plan 2025–26.
