Indian Army Reinforces Youth, Women and Community Development Through Multi-Sector Outreach

JammuJan 20: A series of impactful outreach, education and welfare initiatives undertaken by the Indian Army and Army Public School (APS) Ratnuchak on Tuesday underlined a sustained commitment to youth empowerment, women welfare, community development and professional excellence across Jammu and Kashmir.

In a significant achievement in the field of innovation-driven education, Army Public School Ratnuchak brought laurels to the region by excelling at the Grand Finale of School Youth Ideathon (SYI) 2025, held on 18 January 2026 at IIT Delhi. The prestigious event was attended by eminent academicians and industry leaders, including Dr Biswajit Saha, Prof P.V. Madhusudhan Rao, Ms Shivani Singh Kapoor, Mr Sanjeeva Shivesh and Mr Nitin Seth. In recognition of visionary leadership and sustained institutional participation, Mrs Sonal Sharma, Principal APS Ratnuchak, was conferred the Champions – Platinum Award. Adding to the accolades, Mr Vishal Sharma, TGT Science, received the SYI Top 125 Mentor Medal, while Team Future X Trio—Aakriti Sharma, Aarav Mahajan and Disha Kumari of Class VIII—secured a place among the Top 125 teams Pan-India. Ms Jyoti Jamwal, PGT Physics, was honoured with the Teacher of Innovation Award, reflecting APS Ratnuchak’s strong focus on creativity, critical thinking and entrepreneurship.

In Poonch district, the Indian Army organised a series of awareness and welfare programmes aimed at empowering women and strengthening social equity. An awareness lecture on the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Harni, with participation of 56 girl students and eight teachers. The session emphasised the importance of girl child education, gender equality and collective responsibility of society in nurturing future leaders. Students actively interacted during the session, expressing aspirations and gaining motivation to pursue higher education and skill development.

Continuing its outreach, the Indian Army also conducted an awareness lecture on job opportunities for women at Khanetar, attended by women, girls, teachers and ward members. Participants were briefed on competitive examinations, public and private sector employment avenues, and digital platforms useful for job seekers. The initiative was widely appreciated for encouraging self-reliance and informed career choices among women and unemployed youth.

Reinforcing its unwavering commitment to soldier families, the Indian Army organised a Veer Naari Outreach Programme at Mendhar, attended by six Veer Naaris and two widows. The programme included grievance redressal related to pensions and documentation, a health check-up camp conducted by the Regimental Medical Officer, and dedicated assistance for record verification. The Army reiterated its resolve to ensure dignity, care and welfare of families of fallen soldiers.

In Rajouri, the Indian Army further strengthened community infrastructure by completing and handing over a girls’ toilet at Government Middle School, Moriyan. The facility, long awaited by the school, was welcomed by school authorities, village representatives and ex-servicemen, who highlighted its positive impact on the safety, dignity and attendance of girl students. The initiative was hailed as a meaningful step towards women empowerment and inclusive development in remote areas.

Highlighting its commitment to professional excellence and healthcare readiness, 150 General Hospital (GH) organised a Continuing Medical Education lecture on ‘Neuro Criticare and Neuro Imaging’ at Rajouri. Delivered by renowned neurosurgeon Dr Sharan Srinivasan, the hybrid session witnessed participation from doctors and paramedical staff of 150 GH, GMC Rajouri and the White Knight Corps. The lecture enhanced understanding of advanced neurocritical care and imaging techniques, contributing to improved patient care and combat medical preparedness.

Collectively, these initiatives reflect a holistic approach by the Indian Army and its institutions towards education, innovation, women empowerment, veteran family welfare, healthcare advancement and community development, reinforcing trust, cooperation and the enduring bond between the Armed Forces and the people they serve.
