Pulwama, Jan 10: The Department of Social Welfare, through the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (Mission Shakti), Pulwama, on Saturday organised an awareness programme at the GSCI Coaching Institute to sensitise students about government welfare schemes and key social issues, including drug abuse and child protection.

Officials from Sankalp HEW began the programme with an interactive session, encouraging students to share their concerns and expectations. This was followed by a detailed briefing on various government schemes, including scholarship programmes and financial assistance available for students pursuing MBBS and other technical courses in India and abroad, officials said.

Addressing the students, the Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Pulwama highlighted the fundamental rights of children, including the right to life, protection from harm, non-discrimination and dignity.

He stressed the need for a coordinated approach by institutions, families and society to ensure a safe and supportive environment for children.

The programme also focused on creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse, its impact on individuals and society, and the importance of adopting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.

More than 70 students participated in the programme, which received an encouraging response from the institution, officials added.
