Jammu, Jan 06: The Indian Army on Tuesday carried out a series of people-centric initiatives across Poonch, Kishtwar and Rajouri districts, reaffirming its commitment to community engagement, skill development, social welfare and sustainable development under Operation Sadbhavana.

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen civil-military relations, the Indian Army organised an Awam Meet at Marhote Army Camp in Poonch district. The interaction witnessed the participation of local Sarpanches, Numberdars, Chowkidars and Maulvis from Marhote, with a total of 13 civilians attending the event.

The meet provided an open and constructive platform to discuss matters of mutual cooperation, developmental concerns and ways to further enhance civil-military synergy in the region. The exchange of views reflected a shared commitment towards peace, security and overall progress of the area.

Following the interaction, a tea session was organised, which further strengthened rapport and trust between the Indian Army and the local community, fostering an atmosphere of goodwill, partnership and mutual understanding.

In another initiative aimed at spreading awareness on sustainable development, the Indian Army organised a lecture on Renewable Energy Resources and Their Utility at Khanetar in Poonch district.

The session focused on engaging the local population in discussions about the rapid depletion of conventional energy resources and the vast potential of renewable energy in addressing the long-standing energy challenges of Jammu and Kashmir. The lecture highlighted that conventional sources such as coal, petroleum, natural gas and nuclear energy are non-renewable and are being consumed at an alarming rate.

Emphasis was laid on alternative energy solutions including solar, wind, biomass and tidal energy. The locals were also informed about various government initiatives promoting renewable energy, including the PM KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyaan) scheme, along with financial incentives such as grants, loans, rebates and tax credits.

These measures aim to ensure reliable daytime power for irrigation, reduce subsidy burdens and provide additional income avenues for farmers. The lecture underlined the importance of creating an enabling environment to harness renewable energy for a sustainable and energy-efficient future.

Extending its skill development initiatives, the Indian Army successfully conducted a 15-day Electrician Training Course at Village Chas in Kishtwar district under Operation Sadbhavana. A total of 15 local youth from Chas and nearby areas participated in the course, which catered to both beginners and those seeking to upgrade their existing skills.

The training covered essential aspects of electrical work, including electrical systems, safety protocols, wiring techniques and troubleshooting, with a strong emphasis on hands-on practical learning. Upon successful completion, proficiency certificates were distributed to the trainees, significantly enhancing their employability.

The initiative was widely appreciated by the local residents, with participants expressing gratitude to the Indian Army for providing a meaningful platform for skill enhancement and livelihood generation, thereby strengthening the region’s social and economic fabric.

In Rajouri district, the Indian Army’s Sangeen Shakti Brigade carried out Project ROSHAN MUSTAQBIL at Manjakote village, focusing on the welfare of underprivileged and orphan children. Under this initiative, 40 children were supported through the distribution of essential items aimed at improving their accommodation, education and recreational facilities.

The project sought to create a nurturing and positive environment, instilling hope and confidence among the children while equipping them with the tools necessary for a brighter future. Project ROSHAN MUSTAQBIL stands as a reflection of the Indian Army’s compassionate approach to nation-building and its deep commitment to the welfare of vulnerable sections of society.

Through these integrated initiatives encompassing community interaction, awareness generation, youth empowerment and child welfare, the Indian Army continues to play a pivotal role in promoting peace, harmony and sustainable development across Jammu and Kashmir, while reinforcing strong bonds of trust and cooperation with the local population. – (PIB)
