Rajouri, Jan 5: The Indian Army on Monday carried out a series of community-centric initiatives across Rajouri district, reaffirming its commitment to social welfare, women empowerment, healthcare outreach and environmental conservation under Operation Sadbhavana.
As part of its women empowerment and skill development drive, the Indian Army successfully concluded a Beautician Training Course for young women in Darhal. The course was aimed at equipping local women with employable skills to promote self-reliance and economic independence.
The opening ceremony of the course, held earlier in Darhal, was attended by Army officials, the Sarpanch, Ex-Servicemen leaders, village elders and 25 enthusiastic young women participants. Army officials highlighted that the initiative was part of a broader outreach programme to enhance livelihood opportunities, foster goodwill and strengthen women’s participation in the local economy.
Throughout the course, participants received structured and hands-on training in modern beauty and grooming techniques, along with basic entrepreneurship skills. On successful completion, the women were awarded certificates, enabling them to start their own beauty services or seek employment in the beauty and wellness industry. The initiative marked another significant step in the Indian Army’s sustained efforts toward community empowerment in remote areas.
In another health-focused initiative, the Indian Army organised an informative lecture on Winter Diseases and Prevention at Hasplot village in Rajouri district. The lecture was aimed at educating local children and residents about the increased risk of respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia, bronchitis, cold, flu and asthma during the winter season. Emphasis was laid on preventive healthcare measures, including timely vaccination against influenza and pneumococcal diseases, maintaining personal hygiene, balanced nutrition and regular physical activity. The session was well received by the local population, who appreciated the practical guidance provided to safeguard their health during the harsh winter months.
Further extending medical support to remote areas, the Indian Army conducted a medical patrol in Peda village of Rajouri district, an area with no road connectivity and limited access to healthcare facilities. Army medical teams provided consultations, health screenings and free medicines to local residents, addressing common ailments and promoting preventive healthcare practices. The medical patrol not only served as a crucial lifeline for villagers but also helped foster trust, harmony and cooperation between the Army and the local community, reinforcing the Army’s role as a reliable partner in community welfare.
In addition to health and skill development initiatives, the Indian Army organised an accelerated Tree Plantation Drive at Samote to promote environmental conservation and ecological balance in the region. The drive witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 25 local residents, reflecting collective responsibility towards environmental protection. A total of 28 saplings, including Bamboo, Acacia Glauca and Senegalia Catechu (Khair), were planted. These species were selected for their ecological benefits such as preventing soil erosion, improving air quality and enhancing biodiversity. Army personnel also educated villagers on the long-term benefits of afforestation and the importance of nurturing saplings for sustainable green cover.
The local villagers of Samote and the Awam appreciated the initiative and pledged to adopt and protect the planted saplings to ensure their healthy growth. The plantation drive not only generated environmental awareness but also strengthened community participation in conservation efforts.
Through these integrated initiatives encompassing women empowerment, healthcare delivery and environmental stewardship, the Indian Army continues to play a vital role in fostering peace, harmony and sustainable development in Rajouri district, while reinforcing strong civil-military relations across the region.
