Srinagar, Dec 26: The Territorial Army on Thursday inducted 313 newly recruited soldiers into the Kupwara Terriers during an attestation parade held at Kupwara, marking the culmination of a year-long recruitment and training process that drew large participation from north Kashmir districts.

The recruits, drawn mainly from Kupwara and Bandipora, had undergone several months of training at the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regimental Centre in Jabalpur after being selected through a recruitment drive launched in November 2024 under the aegis of the Army’s Vajra Division.

The attestation parade, held with standard military drill and protocol, formally inducted the soldiers into the Territorial Army after they took the oath of allegiance to the Constitution.

Senior Army officers, including the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps, reviewed the parade. Addressing the recruits, the GOC underlined the operational and nation-building role of the Territorial Army, particularly in supporting the regular Army during emergencies and national contingencies.

Army officials said the recruitment drive witnessed an “unprecedented response” from youth in the region, reflecting growing interest in joining the armed forces. Out of hundreds of applicants, 313 candidates were finally selected after physical, medical and written examinations.

Family members of the recruits and local residents attended the ceremony, many describing the occasion as a moment of pride for the area.

The Territorial Army, a part-time voluntary force, plays a supporting role to the regular Army and has been deployed in counter-insurgency operations, disaster relief, and internal security duties across the country.
