Bandipora, Dec 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Teachers’ Forum (JKTF), Bandipora on Friday expressed serious concern over the deteriorating state of the education system in the district, stating that Bandipora figures at the bottom on several academic indicators.
The concern was raised during a nearly two-hour-long virtual meeting of JKTF’s core members, convened to review the prevailing educational scenario and to frame a roadmap for corrective measures. Participants described the situation as alarming, particularly for a district historically known for “Alim, Adab , Aab”, symbolising scholarship, culture and intellectual heritage.
The forum identified an imbalanced and poor pupil-teacher ratio (PTR) as one of the key factors affecting classroom teaching and learning outcomes. Members said several schools in the district are either understaffed or irrationally staffed, which has directly impacted the quality of education being imparted.
The meeting also discussed the decline in academic and textual standards in government schools. Members cautioned that without immediate corrective steps—such as strengthening academic monitoring, rationalising staff deployment and improving teaching-learning mechanisms—the situation could worsen and have long-term consequences for students.
Following the deliberations, JKTF Bandipora decided to compile a detailed set of suggestions and recommendations, which will be submitted to the concerned authorities and senior officials for consideration. The forum said its approach would remain constructive and solution-oriented, aimed at improving public education and safeguarding students’ interests.
The core members also resolved to seek an early meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, to apprise the district administration of the ground realities, challenges and proposed solutions, and to press for timely administrative intervention.
JKTF Bandipora reiterated its commitment to work for the revival and strengthening of the education system in the district and called upon all stakeholders to act collectively in the larger public interest.
