Army steps up veteran welfare, youth outreach in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 19: The Indian Army continued its multi-pronged outreach across the Rajouri, Ramban and Reasi districts, launching initiatives focused on veteran empowerment, youth development and community engagement, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive growth and strong civil–military relations in the region.
In Rajouri district, the Ace of Spades Division, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Rajouri, launched a Mushroom Farming Programme for veterans at Tandwal as a precursor to the upcoming 10th Veterans Day celebrations.
An official spokesperson said the initiative aims to equip veterans and their families with practical skills in modern mushroom cultivation, enabling them to explore sustainable livelihood options and achieve economic self-reliance in post-retirement life.
By promoting innovative agricultural practices, Spokesperson said, the programme underscores the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to veteran welfare and supports their seamless transition into civilian life through meaningful and productive engagements.
The Ace of Spades Division reiterated that such initiatives are part of its long-term vision to enhance the quality of life and resilience of retired soldiers and their families.
Meanwhile, in Ramban district, the Indian Army conducted a Quiz Competition at Government Primary School, Sanasar, Patni Top, as part of its ongoing Perception Management activities. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of different age groups and communities and was organised among four school houses, each represented by two students. Around 40 students attended as audience members and actively engaged by responding to interactive questions.
The event aimed at fostering healthy competition, improving general awareness and boosting confidence among young learners. The programme also included meaningful interactions with students, teachers and local youth, emphasising the importance of education, discipline and positive values.
The event concluded in a cordial and motivating atmosphere, further strengthening the bond between the Indian Army and the local population.
In Reasi district, the Indian Army organised a Sampark Activity in the form of “Chai Pe Charcha” at Chakalsalta on 18 December 2025, engaging directly with 03 Sarpanch, 12 Panch and 18 Ex-Servicemen. Held in an informal and friendly setting, the interaction focused on strengthening mutual trust, enhancing cooperation and reinforcing civil–military relations.
Discussions covered key local issues related to security, development, welfare and youth engagement. Ex-servicemen shared their experiences, concerns and suggestions, while assuring continued cooperation with the Army in maintaining peace and stability.
Army representatives highlighted the vital role of village leadership and veterans in promoting harmony, vigilance and a secure environment. The programme concluded on a positive note with informal discussions over tea, reinforcing goodwill and strong community bonds.
