Kupwara, Nov 29 : The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has launched a comprehensive strategy to revitalize the Union Territory’s agrarian economy. The plan focuses on strengthening farm-based livelihoods, accelerating productivity, and establishing robust market linkages for local produce.

Agriculture Minister Javid Ahmad Dar as per Kashmir Convener outlined the broader vision at a Mega Kissan Mela in the frontier district of Kupwara.

“The unique potential of our diverse regions, from the plains of Jammu to the valleys of Kashmir, forms the bedrock of our new strategy,” Minister Dar stated. “We are committed to transforming the agriculture sector through policies that are both farmer-centric and market-smart.

Hs said our goal is to strengthen the foundation of rural livelihoods, integrate scientific advancements to boost productivity, and, most critically, dismantle barriers to market access to ensure our farmers evolve from producers into prosperous entrepreneurs.”

Emphasizing that increased yield is futile without fair remuneration, the Minister detailed initiatives to strengthen Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), develop integrated cold chains, and leverage digital platforms to connect farmers with wider domestic and international markets.

To ensure the seamless implementation of this vision, Minister Dar directed the Department of Agriculture to intensify its outreach efforts. Officials were instructed to conduct more Kissan Melas across all districts—a grassroots initiative designed to bridge the awareness gap and equip every farmer with knowledge of the latest government schemes, subsidies, and technological best practices.

During the event, the Minister inspected a wide array of stalls showcasing the work of key departments, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries, and Sheep Husbandry, alongside emerging Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
