Srinagar, Oct 24 : Mehraj Malik, the jailed Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Doda constituency and leader of the AIP, has condemned the National Conference (NC) as a party that has “betrayed the people of Jammu and Kashmir for decades.” His comments came in reaction to the results of the Rajya Sabha elections.

In a post on X, as per Kashmir Convener, Malik alleged a “fixed match” between the NC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He stated, “The NC has betrayed the people of J&K for decades. They did not need my vote, yet I cast mine against communal politics and in favor of unity and justice.”

He further accused the NC of deliberate manipulation, claiming, “The NC deliberately cast extra votes for the third Rajya Sabha seat to help the BJP win the fourth—a clear fixed match!”

Malik questioned whether the newly elected Rajya Sabha members would advocate for the restoration of statehood to Jammu & Kashmir, asserting, “This time, the NC cannot afford to deceive the people again on the issue of statehood.”

Pertinently, The National Conference (NC) secured three of the four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won one. The election was closely contested and marked by intense political maneuvering.

This election was significant as it is the first to fill Rajya Sabha seats for Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and the region’s reorganization into a Union Territory. It also marks the first time members of the upper house of Parliament have been elected from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
