Jammu, June 29: Rangyug, one of Jammu’s leading performing arts foundations, will stage Chanchlo, a Dogri adaptation of Nadira Zaheer Babbar’s iconic play Sakubai, at Abhinav Theatre on July 6.
The premiere show, sponsored by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, will begin at 6:00 PM with free entry for all.
Addressing a press conference today, Rangyug Director Deepak Kumar said Chanchlo reflects the everyday struggles and resilience of domestic workers, bringing a powerful, emotional story to local audiences in their native language. “This is not just a play, but a tribute to the dignity of labor, womanhood, and the voices we often overlook,” Kumar said.
Adapted into Dogri by Dr. Juhie Mohan, the play combines satire, humor, and pathos to deliver a stirring social message through minimalist yet compelling storytelling. The production team, including Ashish Sharma and Shivan Gupta, emphasized Rangyug’s commitment to meaningful theatre rooted in regional language and social consciousness.
With this premiere, Rangyug adds another milestone to its four-decade-long journey of using theatre as a tool for reflection and reform.
