Indian Army Organises Tree Plantation Drive in Poonch

Poonch, June 6: Commemorating World Environment Day 2025, the Indian Army organized a tree plantation drive across Salani, Dak Bunglow Loran, and other locations in Poonch district, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.

In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, an official spokesperson said the drive saw the participation of Indian Army personnel, civil administration officials, schoolchildren, and local residents. The collaborative effort turned the event into a powerful symbol of unity and environmental consciousness in the border region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Approximately 100 saplings were planted at various Indian Army establishments and public spaces, with a focus on native species that support the region’s ecological balance. This initiative aligns with the global theme of World Environment Day 2025—ecosystem restoration and climate action—and reflects the Army’s ongoing efforts under its “Mission Green” campaign.

“Trees have always been essential to human survival, providing food, oxygen, shelter, medicine, and tools. In today’s world, their importance has only grown as we combat climate change and environmental degradation,” said an Army official during the event.

By involving local communities and youth in this green mission, the Indian Army is fostering environmental stewardship and resilience in one of India’s most sensitive border districts. The event not only highlighted the Army’s ecological commitment but also served as a reminder that environmental protection is integral to nation-building.

Villagers welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the Army, pledging to continue working together toward a cleaner and greener society.
