Jammu, May 21, 2025: In a bid to engage the youth in national security discourse and to inspire them towards nation-building, the Department of National Security Studies at Central University Jammu on Wednesday organized a lecture on the role of youth and various avenues available to join the Indian Army.

The lecture, held for research scholars, also provided a comprehensive analysis of Operation Sindoor, the recent Indian military operation that has drawn global attention for its decisive execution and strategic impact.

The event was conceptualized by Dr. Neeta, Head of the Department of National Security Studies, and aimed at demystifying the sequence of events since May 7, which marked the beginning of Operation Sindoor. Speaking virtually, Lt Gen (Dr) JS Cheema, a renowned defence expert, elaborated on India’s strike, Pakistan’s counter-response, and how the Indian Armed Forces demonstrated superior capabilities while also highlighting the shortcomings in Pakistan’s defence systems.

Brigadier Harcharan Singh, a defence analyst and decorated veteran, offered deep insights into the geopolitical factors that led to Operation Sindoor. Emphasizing India’s civilizational values of peace and coexistence, Brig Singh explained how the regional dynamics—shaped by the two-nation theory, Pakistan’s proxy warfare, and the interests of global powers like China, the USA, Russia, and Bangladesh—pose complex security challenges for India. He also shed light on covert operations, the role of certain neighbouring countries, and the misinformation campaigns being launched to undermine India’s global image.

Addressing the young audience, Brig Singh called upon the youth to stay vigilant and informed, and to educate their surroundings about India’s firm stand against terrorism and fundamentalist ideologies. He spoke passionately about the glorious traditions and sacrifices of the Indian Army, urging the students to contribute actively to the nation either by joining the Armed Forces or by being responsible citizens.

Brig Singh also shared his own continued service to the nation through two NGOs—the War Wounded Foundation, which supports disabled soldiers, and the National Corruption Control and Human Welfare Organization, which works with the families of martyrs. He encouraged the youth to visit the homes of Veer Naris (war widows) as a mark of respect and to mentor the children of bravehearts towards successful futures.

During the event, various career paths in the Indian Army—including entries as Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and Other Ranks (OR)—were discussed in detail. Informational booklets were distributed to the students, who actively participated in the Q&A session, demonstrating high motivation and patriotic enthusiasm.
