SIA Conducts Raids Across North and Central Kashmir in Anti-Terror Crackdown
Srinagar, May 17: The State Investigation Agency (SIA), Kashmir, on Saturday carried out extensive raids at around 11 locations across Central and North Kashmir as part of its ongoing investigation into sleeper cell modules involved in terror-related activities.
The searches come days after similar operations were conducted in South Kashmir. Officials said the raids were linked to FIR No. 01/2025 registered under sections 13, 17, 18, 18-B, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Police Station Counter Intelligence (CI)/SIA Kashmir.
The raids were conducted with proper authorization from the competent court and in the presence of Executive Magistrates.
According to officials, incriminating material was recovered during the searches, and several suspects have been detained for questioning. Initial investigation has revealed that the individuals are linked to a larger terror conspiracy and were engaged in activities aimed at inciting disaffection, spreading anti-India narratives, and disturbing public order.
The SIA said the suspects were working to promote separatist ideology and instigate communal tensions, posing a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
A senior SIA official said the agency remains committed to safeguarding national security and will continue firm action against individuals or groups involved in secessionist and terrorist activities.
The agency also noted with concern that many individuals being radicalized online fall in the vulnerable age group of 18 to 22 years. It urged parents, teachers, and peers to remain vigilant about the digital behavior of young people and to seek early intervention in case of any alarming signs.
“While constant supervision may not always be feasible, timely guidance and alertness can play a key role in preventing young minds from being drawn into extremist ideologies,” an official said.
The SIA advised that if necessary, any such cases should be reported to the local police for appropriate counselling and intervention.
