Detainees lodged in different JK jails are living miserable life: Hurriyat (G)

Srinagar | Jan 14 (PTK): Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Saturday while hailing dedication and commitment of incarcerated pro-freedom leaders, activists and youths, appealed organisation for human rights to take serious cognizance of the plight of those lodged in different jails and impressed to use their influence for their unconditional and immediate release. Syed Ali Geelani while referring to detainees lodged in outside jails, said that those lodged in Kathua, Kotbhalwal, Udhampur are living a miserable life and no adequate facilities and medical treatment is being provided to them. Syed Ali Geelani said that during present people’s uprising, innocent minors, elderly and ailing people were arrested, slapped PSA and lodged in outside jails and in police stations.
Condemning the unabated arrest spree he said that police is still chasing youth and night raids have caused harassment and panic among peaceful citizens. Besides arresting scores of leaders and workers of Tehreek-e- Hurriyat, scores of party activists of other pro-freedom parties including Jamat-e-Islami, Liberation Front, Muslim League, Umat-e-Islami and even innocent and minors were arrested and lodged in detention centres and in police stations, Said Syed Ali Geelani. Hurriyat chairman said although the international community has declared PSA as unlawful unjustified and draconian law, instead it is indiscriminately used and without applying any sense, administration never hesitates to justify its use.
Slapping PSA against political workers has been declared as worst human rights violation, said Syed Ali Geelani. He said though the puppet administration had announced that the term of detention will be reduced to three months but virtually it has proved hoax as detainees are languishing since last six months and there is no legal respite for them and even the detention period is extended on one pretext or other.
While referring to district Baramula administration, Syed Ali Geelani said that those top brass police officers in this district are depicting their autocratic and egoistic behaviour and these henchmen in order to appease their Delhi groomed masters are detaining more and more people under PSA. Condemning their autocratic behavior, Geelani said that they have arrested even all the male members of same family. Expressing his deep concern, Syed Ali Geelani said that quite contradictory to court orders and after quashing their cases, they were re-arrested and again lodged in jails and detention centres.
