Late Vijayan Kutty G of BRO Honored with Shaurya Chakra Posthumously
Jammu, January 29: In recognition of his exceptional bravery and selfless service, Late Vijayan Kutty G of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day.
Born on May 20, 1975, in Kunnattoor village, Kollam district, Kerala, Vijayan Kutty G joined the Border Roads Organisation on October 11, 1995, as a Pioneer and was later promoted to Operator Equipment Machinery (OEM) in March 2005. Over the course of his dedicated service, he was deployed in various challenging terrains across Northern, Eastern, and Western Commands, including Bhutan under Project Dantak.
At the time of his sacrifice, Vijayan Kutty G was deployed on the Reasi-Arnas-Mahore road in Jammu & Kashmir under Project Sampark, operating a JCB Wheel Loader for the construction of approaches to Khurd Bridge, a strategically vital road link.
On June 15, 2024, at approximately 10:35 AM, while working on the project, the wheel loader lost control and began rolling towards the valley. In a selfless act of courage, Vijayan Kutty G attempted to regain control of the machine, but the unstable terrain gave way, causing the JCB and the operator to plunge into a deep gorge. Despite his valiant efforts, he sustained multiple fatal injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
His indomitable courage and unwavering commitment to the nation, even in the face of imminent danger, have been recognized with the Shaurya Chakra, India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award.
The heroic sacrifice of Late Vijayan Kutty G will continue to inspire future generations, reminding the nation of the unmatched dedication and bravery of the Border Roads Organisation personnel in ensuring connectivity to some of the most challenging terrains in the country.
