‘State Cabinet has absolute powers, can take any admin decision’

Srinagar, Dec 11 (KNS): Main opposition National Conference (NC) Sunday said they would have restructured the Kashmir Police Services (KPS), the same way they did it in KAS, but their government could do it because of the floods in 2014, that affected the smooth functioning.
Talking to KNS, former minister and senior NC leader Nasir Aslam Wani said State Cabinet has taken such decisions in special cases and if this PDP-BJP cabinet needs Delhi’s approval for restructuring the KPS, then it would be like undermining its powers.
Criticising Mehbooba Mufti for belittling the role of the chief minister, Wani said, “They would have restructured the KPS but unfortunately floods devastated the state, due to which the smooth functioning of the government was disrupted. We have taken such decisions in the past and would have done this too,” he said.
He said if both KAS and KPS officers belong to a same batch, why one gets the benefits while the KPS officer is being deprived from it.
“It is sheer injustice. Is IPS officer doing some more work than a KPS officer?’ he asked.
Wani said an IPS officer posted as an SSP in a district is doing the same work what a KPS officer is doing in other district as an SSP. “But why when it comes to the promotion, there is a roadblock for a KPS officer. He should also get his due promotion,” Wani added. (KNS)
