Bandipora Dec 08:- District administration on Thursday resumed its eviction drive after five months of unrest and restored more than 30 Kanal of state land from encroachment.
An officials spokesperson said that in continuation to its extensive and exhaustive eviction drive, Tehsildar Bandipora Mohammed Yousuf conducted an extensive anti -encroachment drive at Lowdara village of Bandipora district along with Naib Tehsildar Mubashir Saleem Nazki, NT Saleem Samoon and officials of Revenue, irrigation and flood control department Bandipora evicted 30 kanals of khacharie land and simultaneously axed hundreds of Russian poplar and willow trees.
Earlier the J&K High Court ordered axing of all Russain poplars citing the ill-effects of their pollen on the people.
Meanwhile the drive against Russian poplar trees continued in different parts of the district.
More than one hundred trees were axed in tehsil Bandipora by a team headed by Tehsildar Bandipora.
Talking to Kashmir Convener, Assistant Commissioner Revenve Bandipora Masarat Hashim said the drive will continue “Following court orders, we have initiated a drive against Russian poplars and have so far axed more than 1000 such trees.”
It was also good to see locals taking active participation in the eviction drive and were praising the district administration for their positive approach towards making eviction successful.
Meanwhile Assistant Commissioner Bandipora appreciated the whole staff and retrieved that drive will continue with full vigour and force in coming days.
