Srinagar, Nov 18 (KNS): Calling for a judicious use of electricity, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti directed power development department to ensure stable and quality power supply to the people.
Sources told KNS that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in a meeting with the officials of the Power development department directed them to ensure hassle-free power supply during winter season in the state especially in the winter zones. “You should be prepared to undertake a challenging job for the supply of uninterrupted and quality power to the consumers during winter especially to winter zones and snow bound areas,” sources quoting CM having said.
Sources said that the Chief Minister has put entire power development on tenterhooks for smooth supply of power, so that the public at large does not face any hardship during winter. You should address to the problems of the general masses and in any case, laxity is found by any officer, shall be dealt with seriously,” the CM has said.
Sources said that the Chief Minister has also asked the PDD department to maintain a continuous vigil and take all necessary preventive steps to minimize power faults and by attending to them promptly. “It has become imperative to educate people to make judicious use of power to enable the department to deliver better services and reduce damage to transformers,” the CM has said.
Sources said that the CM has said that the district development commissioners and officers of PDD should constitute public committees in all areas and keep constant liaison with people through these committees to ascertain the power availability in the particular area and the bottlenecks hampering smooth supply of electricity.
Meanwhile sources said that to clamp down on illegal power connections in the state, the power department has decided to launch a drive to check power thefts.
Sources said that different teams of the power development in cooperation with the police will carry out raids in areas that have reported electricity thefts. “Those caught will face heavy financial penalty,” sources in the power department said. (KNS)
