HR activist files petition in SHRC

Seeks waiver of school fees, other dues

Srinagar, Nov 16 (KNS): A petition has been filed in the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) seeking waving off the school fees and other dues from July 8 of this year till normalcy returns in the Valley.
Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, a human rights activist had filed petition before SHRC and urged that the private school authorities to be directed to waive off the school fees and other dues from July 8 of this year till the normalcy returns in the Valley.
Petitioner said that such decision would be in the larger interests of justice.
Untoo demanded that the petition regarding the issue be entertained and the respondents be directed to waive off the school fees and other dues of students.
Petitioner according to the petition, a copy available with Kashmir News Service (KNS) demanded, “The respondents (private school authorities) be further directed to refund the school fees to the parents if they have already received.”
The petitioner said that the private schools front has compelled the parents of their respective schools to pay the dues for the unrest which seems to be unjustified as the schools were getting the grant in aid from the state government are compelling the parents to pay the dues for the period of unrest which commenced from 8th of July 2016 and is recurring one.
Pertinently, reports said that the parents had also alleged that they are being forced to pay the schools fees of unrest months.
They had also said that due to the shutdown, they had failed to pursue their business thereby it won’t be possible for them to pay the fees in such circumstances and were demanding waive off. (KNS)
