Srinagar, Sep 21: The Jammu and Kashmir government has told the Legislative Assembly that 8,084 educated and uneducated youth are registered as unemployed in the Bandipora constituency, according to records maintained by the Labour and Employment Department.
The figure was disclosed in a written reply to a starred question by MLA Nizam-Ud-Din Bhat, who sought a break-up of the number of educated and uneducated unemployed youth in his constituency, as well as details of measures taken to generate jobs at the local level through the optimum utilisation of available resources.
In its reply, the department as per Kashmir Convener said that under the Mission Youth (YUVA) scheme — a flagship programme aimed at addressing unemployment through self-employment — it has processed 1,517 cases of unemployed youth from Bandipora. Of these, 550 cases have been sanctioned by bank branches in favour of the applicants, “thereby enabling them for self-employment/job opportunities under the said scheme,” the reply stated.
Notably, The disclosure comes amid continuing concern over joblessness in Jammu and Kashmir, where schemes such as Mission Youth are projected as key interventions for creating livelihood opportunities at the grassroots.
