Srinagar, Apr 3: Over 600 foreign tourists have visited the famous Tulip Garden in Kashmir this season so far, as the spring bloom continues to draw a record number of visitors, a senior official said on Friday.

Director Floriculture Kashmir, Mathoora Masoom told Kashmir Convener that the garden, inaugurated by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently, has seen a steady increase in footfall, with visitor numbers crossing 2.25 lakh as of Thursday evening.

“On normal working days, the rush is fine, but on holidays and weekends, we get about 20,000 to 22,000 visitors maximum into the garden. The trend has been increasing,” Masoom said.

She said around 600 foreigners have visited the garden so far, while the majority of tourists are from within the country.

The Director also stated that Badamwari has witnessed more than double the footfall in the March, rising from 18,000 last year to 43,000 this year.

Favourable weather conditions, with cool temperatures beneficial for tulips, have helped sustain the bloom. Director expressed hope that the numbers will increase further in the coming days.

The tulip garden, set against the Zabarwan hills overlooking Dal Lake, blooms only once a year. “I request visitors to come and enjoy this beauty,” she further added.
