Bandipora, Dec 14: After receiving complaints of overcharging of fares, ARTO Bandipora took serious note of violations by passenger vehicles in the district and seized several vehicles under Section 207 of MVD Act.
ARTO Bandipora Suhayb Ahmad said after recieving complaints about the arbitrary overcharging by the public transporters including four-wheeler Sumo's, Taveras and Tata Magic autos on social media from the residents of various areas for overcharging of fares from passengers, he along with other officials conducted an intensive checking of vehicles on various routes includes Mantrigam, Bonakoot, Nadihal, Watapora, Aragam, Nusoo roads and its adjacent areas.
During the drive, more than 100 vehicles mostly Tata magic, Three wheeler passenger auto's were checked by the team and the violators were fined for charging extra fare, driving without seat belts and crash helmets and plying of vehicles in contravention of Registration Certificates and route permits. 32 vehicles wefe challaned for over charging.
Moreover, road safety tips were imparted among the bikers at various spots during the intensive checking. Vehicles were also challaned for plying without (HSRP) High Security Registration Plates.
Arto Bandipora said that drivers were advised to charge fare as per notification issued by Transport Commissioner. He added, that the drive will continue in coming days and whosoever will be seen voilating traffic rules will be dealt strictly.
The residents said that ARTO should deploy his teams regularly on the routes and should not restrict his action to ‘special drives’ only.
“The administration should regularly monitor the public transport and taken action against violators,” they said.
The checking team comprised of MVD Inspector Ab Hameed and other officials of the department.
