3 days on, Anantnag’s Gopal Pora reels under darkness

Residents urge authorities to make alternate arrangements, say in absence of electricity, water supply suffers too in area

Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNO): The residents of Turray Mohalla, Gopal Pora residents in Mattan hamlet of Anantnag district Friday said they continue to reel under darkness amid intense cold due to the snag developed by the local transformer three days ago.

Locals of Gopal Pora told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that three days ago, 250 KVA transformer in their locality, developed technical snag due to which area is reeling under darkness.

“Around 100 households get electricity from the transformer. We went to PDD office where officials told us that the transformer is being repaired. But it has been three days and we are without electiricty,” the residents said, adding that “in the intense cold wave conditions and snowfall, living without electricity adds to the already existing problems in the area.”

They said that their water supply is dependent on electricity as they all have submersible water pump in the area which won't work in absence of power

“We requested authorities to make alternative arrangements so that we won't suffer for want of water. There has been no positive response from the authorities so far,” a local said. He said that if repairing the transformer will take time, government should make an alternate arrangement so that locals don’t suffer.

The residents requested authorities to look into the matter and make alternative arrangements of transformer for the area so that both electricity and water supply gets restored—(KNO)
