Srinagar, June 30: Bharti Airtel has protected over 2.3 million users in Jammu and Kashmir from online fraud within 47 days of launching its AI-based fraud detection system in the region.
The system, which works silently in the background and requires no user installation, automatically scans and blocks harmful links shared via SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, email, and social media platforms. It examines over 1 billion URLs daily and prevents access to malicious websites in under 100 milliseconds.
Dibyendu Aich, Chief Operating Officer – J&K, Bharti Airtel, said, “At Airtel, safeguarding our customers from digital fraud remains a top priority. Our AI-powered system is available free of charge and ensures real-time protection.”
Airtel’s initiative is particularly relevant as cybercrime cases rise across both urban and rural regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Cities like Srinagar and Jammu, and towns such as Baramulla and Samba, have reported a spike in phishing, fake delivery messages, and fraudulent banking alerts.
To strengthen cyber safety measures, Aich met with Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch J&K, Dr. Sunil Gupta, to discuss collaborative efforts in combating digital fraud.
The AI system supports Urdu and Hindi languages, increasing its effectiveness in areas with low digital literacy. Nationwide, Airtel has blocked over 201,000 malicious links and protected more than 117 million users since the system’s rollout.
