Cooperative Department Organises Awareness Camp in Gurez as Part of International Year of Cooperatives

Bandipora, June 15: As part of the celebrations under the International Year of Cooperatives, the Cooperative Department today organised an awareness camp at Dak Bungalow, Gurez, aimed at promoting cooperative-led development and enhancing livelihood opportunities in the region.

The programme was chaired by Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Cooperative Department, Babila Rakwal (JKAS), and was attended by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gurez, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Bandipora, officials from different departments, and was moderated by the Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies Gurez.

During the session, Commissioner Secretary Babila Rakwal provided detailed insights into cooperative-funded schemes available for farmers, producer groups, and cooperative society members. She also directed the department to facilitate the registration of new cooperative societies in niche sectors such as food processing of Zeera, potato, buckwheat, and tourism, to tap into the region’s unique potential.

An interactive session followed, featuring members of Farmer Producer Organisations, All Women’s Glorious Gurez Cooperative Society, Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society, Sale and Service Societies, and others. The discussions helped participants understand the broad opportunities the cooperative model can offer for rural development.

The event concluded with the department reiterating its commitment to strengthening the cooperative movement in Gurez and fostering sustainable, community-based economic growth.
