District Hospital Bandipora Marks World Blood Donor Day with Voluntary Donation Camp

Over 50 units collected in collaboration with Bandipora Volunteers; Officials urge regular donations to support healthcare needs

Bandipora, June 14: District Hospital Bandipora, in collaboration with Bandipora Volunteers, organised a successful blood donation camp on Saturday to mark World Blood Donor Day 2025, witnessing strong participation from youth, health officials, and civil society members.

The camp, held within the hospital premises, was inaugurated by Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad, and Medical Superintendent Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani, who lauded the voluntary spirit shown by the participants and called for sustained efforts to promote regular blood donation in the district.

Blood donation is not just a noble act—it’s a lifeline. Today, we honour those who step forward to save lives without expecting anything in return,” said Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad in his address.

Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani commended the role of Bandipora Volunteers in mobilising community support. “It is encouraging to see such coordination between the hospital and youth-led initiatives. This collective spirit enhances the strength of our public health system,” he said.

The camp yielded over 50 units of blood, which will be preserved in the District Hospital’s blood bank for emergency use. Organisers also distributed awareness material to educate the public about the safety, benefits, and need for regular blood donations.

Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, a core member of Bandipora Volunteers, expressed satisfaction over the turnout. “Serving humanity through small acts like this can make a big difference. Bandipora has shown heart today,” he said.

Aamir Gani, a first-time donor, shared his experience: “This is my first time donating blood. It feels great to know that this small act can help save a life. I’ll definitely do it again.”

Health officials reiterated that while World Blood Donor Day is observed annually, the need for blood is constant, and every eligible person should consider donating regularly. The day’s theme, “20 Years of Celebrating Giving: Thank You, Blood Donors!”, reflects two decades of global recognition for selfless donors.

As the event concluded, organisers expressed hope that the camp would inspire more people to become lifelong donors, strengthening the culture of compassion and public responsibility in Bandipora.
