Department of Fisheries Stocks 5 Lakh Carp Fish Seed in Sumbal Water Bodies

Bandipora, June 14: In a major boost to sustainable aquaculture and aquatic biodiversity conservation, the Department of Fisheries, District Bandipora, successfully completed the first phase of carp fish seed stocking in the natural water bodies of the Sumbal Division.

As part of this initiative, 5 lakh carp fish seeds were introduced into various water bodies to enhance fish production and support the livelihoods of local fishing communities. The move is expected to play a vital role in replenishing the natural fish stock and promoting ecological balance in the region.

The program was formally flagged off by Mr. M.A. Qadri (JKAS), District Development Commissioner, Bandipora, who lauded the efforts of the Fisheries Department in promoting sustainable fishery practices. He emphasised the importance of such initiatives in strengthening rural economies, especially for communities dependent on fisheries.

Speaking on the occasion, fisheries officials highlighted the long-term benefits of fish seed stocking, noting its impact on both biodiversity conservation and the socio-economic upliftment of traditional fishermen.

The Department of Fisheries has reiterated its commitment to continue such environment-friendly measures in future phases, further contributing to the blue economy of Jammu & Kashmir.
