Bandipora, May 20: The Secretary of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bandipora, on Tuesday convened three separate introductory-cum-review meetings with Panel Lawyers, Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADCs), and Adhikar Mitras (PLVs) to assess ongoing legal aid efforts and strengthen access to justice for marginalized communities across the district.
The meetings focused on evaluating the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of legal services being provided, particularly to the poor, vulnerable, and underrepresented. Discussions revolved around improving court representation standards, better case management, and devising strategies to enhance outreach and awareness.
The Secretary emphasized the need for LADCs and Panel Lawyers to maintain regular engagement with legal aid beneficiaries, ensure professional and diligent representation in criminal trials, and raise awareness about government welfare schemes. He further directed them to offer timely legal support to aggrieved women and needy individuals, especially in remote areas.
Addressing the Adhikar Mitras (PLVs), the Secretary highlighted their crucial role in the grassroots legal aid framework. He encouraged them to conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns, extend legal help at police stations, and identify vulnerable individuals such as school dropouts, distressed senior citizens, and mentally ill persons in need of support.
The review meetings served as a platform for collaborative planning, encouraging participants to share experiences and challenges. The initiative is part of DLSA Bandipora’s broader commitment to ensure that legal aid reaches the last mile, empowering citizens with knowledge of their rights and access to justice.
