Double EMI Deduction Creates Financial Woes for Government Employees in J&K

JKReTTF Appeals for Urgent Intervention from CM Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, May 3: A sudden and unexplained double deduction of EMIs has left numerous government employees in Jammu and Kashmir grappling with financial distress.

The Jammu & Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (JKReTTF) has raised alarms over the issue, urging Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to step in and provide immediate relief.

According to Chairman JKReTTF, Khalid Rafeeq Bhat, Employees were shocked when, after the usual EMI deduction for April 2025 on May 1, a second unauthorized deduction occurred just two days later. “This unexpected double charge has disrupted household budgets, leaving employees struggling to meet basic living expenses”.

Bhat said first EMI for April 2025 was duly deducted on May 1 as scheduled. However, just two days later, on May 3, a second EMI for the same loan was again withdrawn from the accounts of several government employees without any prior notice or explanation.

“This has caused immense financial hardship to employees who depend entirely on their monthly salary to cover essential needs such as household expenses, education, and especially the medical care of aging parents,” said Bhat in a statement issued on Saturday. “The arbitrary double deduction has left many employees struggling to manage even their basic needs.”

Calling the situation alarming, Bhat appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take urgent note of the issue and direct the concerned authorities to rectify the error.

He also urged JK Bank to immediately refund the wrongly debited amount to prevent further distress.

“The government employees of Jammu and Kashmir UT deserve financial transparency and security. Such errors erode public trust in the banking system and place undue pressure on those who serve the public tirelessly,” Bhat said.

The Forum hopes that the government will act swiftly to resolve the issue and ensure that such lapses are not repeated in the future.
