Damana, April 29: On the occasion of the 42nd AWES Raising Day, Army Public School (APS) Damana hosted a Youth Parliament session along with a series of co-curricular activities, aiming to instill democratic values and political awareness among students.
The Youth Parliament offered a simulated platform that engaged aspiring young leaders in legislative procedures and civic participation. The event fostered a spirit of inquiry and debate, encouraging students to voice their opinions on a wide range of social, political, and governance issues — from educational reforms and mental health awareness to climate change and social justice.
Brig Vivek Puri, SM, PhD, Commander Chenab Brigade and Chairman of APS Damana, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and formally declared the Parliament open. Applauding the initiative, he emphasised the importance of empowering youth with knowledge about parliamentary functioning and the responsibilities of citizenship.
Students from classes VII to XII took on various ministerial roles and were assigned portfolios. Each group worked collaboratively to draft and present bills addressing real-world issues, demonstrating critical thinking and leadership. The presentations were followed by structured debates, showcasing the participants’ eloquence and depth of understanding.
In the prize distribution ceremony, Neelakashi Sharma (Class X-B) was honoured as Best Speaker, while Naman Vivek Puri (Class VIII-A) was named Best Delegate. Special Mentions were awarded to Aaradhya Verma (VII-D) and Arun Sharma (X-B) for their noteworthy contributions.
In his keynote address, Brig Puri praised the students’ involvement and highlighted the significance of such initiatives in nurturing future leaders. He urged students to uphold respect for women and the nation, and to remain committed to values of integrity and service.
School Principal Ms Pushpinder Kaur expressed great pride in the students’ participation, noting that the program effectively mirrored the workings of the Indian Parliament. Event Coordinator Mr. Manmohan Singh, PGT Political Science, remarked that the success of the event reflects a growing enthusiasm among youth to engage in civic and political discourse.
The event concluded on a high note with refreshments served to participants, marking a day filled with learning, leadership, and inspiration.
