Indian Army Pioneers Use of Advanced 3D Microscope for Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery at Army Hospital (R&R)

New Delhi, April 26, 2025: In a significant first for the Armed Forces, the Department of Ophthalmology at Army Hospital (Research and Referral), New Delhi, has successfully performed minimally invasive glaucoma surgery using an advanced 3D microscope, marking a major milestone in military healthcare.

The state-of-the-art three-dimensional visualization system, which incorporates special 3D polarisation glasses and a 55-inch 4K ultra-HD display, is designed to transform the experience and outcomes of eye surgeries. It is particularly beneficial for procedures related to squint correction, cataract removal, corneal surgeries, glaucoma management, and retinal interventions.

The introduction of this technology offers several advantages over conventional microscopes, including significantly reduced surgical time and complication rates, decreased power requirements for endoilluminators, reduced photo-toxicity, and improved ease of handling in complex cases.
